Description

The Darcy Mama dress is a women’s sewing pattern for the advanced beginner / intermediate sewist. A comfortable dress with a unique silhouette, the dress is made with stretch knit material and offers three sleeve options – an action back singlet top, a raglan style short sleeve, and a raglan style 3/4 length sleeve. The neckline and singlet armholes have bound edges, the darted bodice features an empire line and optional contrast stretch lace overlay. The skirt of the dress has soft pleats across the front and back, and a cowl shaped silhouette that hide side in-seam pockets. You are sure to fall in love with the Darcy dress!

The Darcy dress is a great maternity style, as the soft pleats falling from the under bust create a voluminous skirt, taking you from the first trimester through to the last. The dress can be made on a regular sewing machine if you don’t have an overlocker/serger. I give lots of tips on sewing with stretch knits in the tutorial.

Suggested Fabrics

4 way stretchy and high stretch knits with 50 – 100% stretch factor. Lightweight cotton lycra, polyester/spandex blends, rayon/spandex blends. Any soft stretch knit that will give a lovely drape to the skirt. Light to medium weight all over lace for bodice (optional).
